BOOK SPOTLIGHT/ GIVEAWAY: Magic at Work by Sotia Lazu

Magic at Work

From Goodreads

She thought he hated her. He thought she was too good for him. Fate proved them both wrong.

On a slow day at work, Lexi Adams discovers an on-line erotic romance novel. Intrigued by the similarities she shares with the heroine, she starts reading and becomes enamored with the leading man. The problem is, she’s only able to access the novel on her work computer.

Ric Ackart, head of the IT department, suspects she's slacking off and decides to find out what she does in front of her computer screen all day. His surprise at what takes up her time is overshadowed by the fact that the novel's leading man shares his face and the name he used years ago..

Now Ric is forced to come to terms with his feelings for her―but Lexi isn't willing to share more than her body...

Author's Note: This book contains graphic language and explicit sexual situations that some may find objectionable.

She was obviously at a loss for words. He had her trapped between his body and the fridge, and those damned gorgeous eyes of hers were burning him.

“So? Care to fill a bloke in?” He cocked his head to side and licked his lips slowly.

He didn’t miss how her gaze zeroed in on his tongue, or how her body tensed. If he had her figured out, which he thought he did, she’d be shoving him away and bolting any minute now.

Instead of pulling free, though, Lexi grabbed his neck and pressed her body against his. Before Ric knew what was happening, she raised her face to his and crashed her lips to his.

Ric couldn’t process what was happening, so he didn’t even try, choosing instead to lose himself in the wonderful sensations her unexpected kiss evoked.

Her lips were incredibly soft, still carrying a fruity flavor, even though all but a few traces of the lip-gloss she’d worn was gone. He craved to devour them. She moaned against his mouth, but he resisted the urge to slip his tongue past her lips, drink her in, get drunk off her. That changed the second her tongue came out to trace his lower lip. He simply couldn’t hold back—didn’t have the will anymore. He deepened the kiss, letting his tongue brush hers timidly at first, inhaling her breath and savoring her taste.

Gradually emboldened by her whimpers, he began mapping the inside of her mouth, recognizing the flavor he’d first noticed as that of the wine he’d brought. That made him even more desperate to consume her. He brought his free hand to her face and cupped her cheek while he ground his hips against her.

Her hand found its way to his chest, giving him pause. She didn’t push him away; she held on to his shirt as if for dear life.

Somehow, although her body was flush against his, she didn’t feel close enough. He wanted her inside his skin, if that were possible. Letting go of her wrist, he tried to wrap his arm around her waist.

He was a heartbeat too slow.

The moment her arm was free, Lexi swung the plastic bottle, brought it down on his head, and shoved hard against his chest. The stunned step back he took was all she needed to hightail it out of the room without a backward glance.

REVIEW: Come A Little Bit Closer by Bella Andre

Come A Little Bit Closer

4 HEARTS

From Goodreads

Movie star Smith Sullivan can’t afford any distractions. He’s staking his entire reputation on his new film...but he can’t stop thinking about Valentina Landon and the fire he sees smoldering just beneath the surface of her cool exterior.

Valentina isn’t averse to sensual pleasure, or even to the idea of finding true love, but as a Hollywood business manager she’s watched too many smart women fall for actors...only to be torn apart when the fairytale comes to its inevitable end.

But when intense weeks together on set turn their heated attraction into red-hot flames of passion, Smith knows he has to find a way to convince Valentina to let him get a little bit closer. Close enough to completely steal her heart...the way she’s stolen his from the start.

Come a Little Bit Closer is the 7th book in The Sullivans series by Bella Andre. Anyone that follows my reviews knows I absolutely love this series and this book did not disappoint. I listen to this story in audio format and really enjoy Eva Kaminsky's interpretation of this family.

Valentina Landon has spent her life protecting her sister. It came naturally to her as a child and has carried over into their adult life. Their mother was around, but always seemed to be looking for love in every movie star that she could find. Therefore, her girls weren't always a priority. Now, that her sister is a movie star Val is always there to protect her and help out in any way. Good thing she is immune to movie stars or she could find herself swept away by these handsome, superficial co-stars. She's found herself on the set of the new Smith Sullivan movie and is prepared to behave the way she does on every set - professional, friendly, yet distant. That is until Smith takes an interest in her and she finds herself unable to fight the spark. Could Smith really be different than the rest?

Smith Sullivan is the movie star of the family. Yet, he's so much more. He has never let fame and stardom get in the way of his values and upbringing, even though it pulls at him every chance he gets. Now, he's trying his hand at directing his very own movie and his reputation is resting on it. So, why is it that Valentina is on his mind more often than this movie? She is so different than any other woman he has ever met and she doesn't like movie stars. Can he convince her that he is interested in more than a partner for the length of the movie and that putting up with his very public life is worth it all?

Who would've guessed that Smith Sullivan is the mushy one of all the Sullivans? His romantic side was so sweet. Poor Valentina didn't stand a chance. Valentina was strong, yet not bitchy. I loved how she loved and protected her sister, but never resented her.

Thank you Ms. Andre for yet another great Sullivan story.

ARC REVIEW: Unleash by Felicity Heaton

Unleash

5 HEARTS

From Goodreads

A powerful vampire lost deep in his bloodlust, Snow is a savage animal, mindless with rage and a thirst for violence, and trapped with no hope of awakening from an endless nightmare… until a song draws him up from the abyss, restoring his sanity but leaving him haunted by the sweet feminine scent of lilies and snow, and fragmented familiar lyrics.

When the mysterious and beautiful songstress reappears in Snow’s room at Vampirerotique, she awakens a fierce protective streak and stirs dark desires that drive him to claim her as his female, even when he knows his touch will destroy her innocence.

A single forbidden taste is all it takes to unleash emotions in Aurora that she shouldn’t possess, tearing her between duty and desire, and luring her into surrendering to her wildfire passion and embracing hungers that burn so hotly they threaten to consume them both.

One act of kindness can lead to one thousand acts of sin though, each a black mark against the bearer’s soul and another grain of sand that slips through an hourglass. The clock is ticking and time is almost up. Can beauty save the beast?

I think my heart is in pieces, still. Between the hell of Snow's past with his brother, and over as present with her master, I really think my heart has been ground to dust. So much pain and hurt and betrayal, my heart bled for them throughout this book. However, their connection and relationship would have been nowhere near as strong as it was without the hardships they had. I swear if any two people were meant to be together, it was them.

Snow had my heart in a vice for the longest time. I felt the pain he felt, I felt how tortured and anguished he felt. It was like I was living his hell right along with him. There was no way I could do anything but read faster so his happy ending got there sooner. He was perfection in my eyes. Yes, he was severely broken and had given up on life, but that made everything he said and did so much more powerful. He was beautiful in his brokenness, and when Aurora healed him, he became magnificent. And I swooned so hard during one bloodlust scene in particular. There is no way you can hate this man. His flaws are what made him pure.

I think Aurora was amazing as a heroine. She was innocent enough for me to believe she was an angel (despite obvious proof), but she was experienced enough for me to believe that she could have this naughty side to her. She was tainted, but in the best of ways. Now her master, on the other hand, I want to completely backhand into the next century and then some. For him to treat her in such a way was despicable, and I applaud her for her strength and determination in the face of very impossible odds. She was the perfect mate for Snow. Her love, compassion, and total belief that he was not a monster was the reason she was able to help him. Her pure heart healed his broken one, and her love and presence tamed. She was the antidote to Snow's broken will.

A really felt for all the characters in this book. Not only were the main characters completely captivating, but everyone else we've grown to love had a big role in it too. To see the family they are come together in Snow's biggest time of need was wonderful. Especially in that big epic fight scene, I swear I was holding my breath hoping everyone came out alive.

And the angels? Seriously, I have never wanted to maim celestial beings in my life. But these ones were just ridiculous. It definitely added to the story, them being the way they are, but I just couldn't believe how they treated not only Aurora, but everyone at Vampirerotique. Don't mess with the family! They gonna kick yo ass!

Another phenomenal story by Heaton. Snow and Aurora's relationship was beautiful, even with all the pain and darkness that it was drowned in. Their coming together, their love for each other, everything was so deep and so true that I was completely immersed in it.

Must read. Definitely a must read.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT/ GIVEAWAY: Truth Be Told by Tamsin Baker

Truth Be Told

Patrick is gorgeous, gay, and a corporate lawyer. He also wants to stay firmly in the closet. When he goes to a new club in search of a one-night stand, he is picked up by Liam.

Liam is big, beautiful, and also a Dom. A hot and heavy night ensues leaving them both thinking there could be more to their relationship than just sex.

But Liam is out and proud gay, and he finds it insulting to not to accept who you are. Patrick disagrees...and major problems occur.

Be Warned: BDSM, sex toys, m/m sex

Patrick’s mother smiled at her son. “So, how’s your birthday been so far today?”

Liam smothered his smile as he remembered the afternoon of fucking they had enjoyed. He’d been inside Patrick twice and the birthday boy had come three times, even coming close to passing out on the third one.
Patrick shrugged. “I worked a bit in the morning, then had lunch with a close friend.”
“A friend? A romantic friend?”
Patrick flushed, his cheeks reddening in an attractive way. Liam clenched his teeth against the wave of lust that gripped him. Twice this afternoon should have been enough for him. Why could he never be satisfied with what he got from Patrick? His body always wanted more.
“Well, yes. I have been seeing someone,” Patrick answered.
Liam’s ears pricked up. Had he just heard that correctly? Was his lover finally going to admit who he was?
“When do we get to meet her?”
Patrick’s eyes flashed to Liam’s for a moment before turning to address his mother. Disappointment assailed Liam before Patrick even opened his mouth.
“It’s early days yet, mum. Once I’m sure, I’ll bring them home. I promise.”
A warm hand moved over his and he looked down to see Milly’s hand over his clenched fist above the table. She gave his hand a squeeze and an interested look.
“So, you’re a lawyer too, Liam?” Patrick’s mother asked him politely.
Liam focused on relaxing his body, oozing the charm he was renowned for. He lifted his arm and placed it on the chair behind Milly and she giggled, turning towards him.
“No. I own and run a club, actually, out in Strathnaver.”
“Oh, that sounds challenging.” Patrick’s father joined in the conversation.
“Liam has a degree in business management and accountancy.” Patrick’s voice piped up and everyone turned to look at him. He blushed again.
Liam wanted to lean over and kiss his lover, but knew he would be signing the death warrant on his relationship if he did.
A shrewd look had come into Milly’s eyes when she asked, “Which club?”
Liam smiled at her, feeling someone press his leg beneath the table. Fuck him. “Nine Lives.”
When Patrick’s parents and Milly looked confused, he made the decision to elaborate. “It’s a gay bar, so you may not have heard of it.”
Milly smiled knowingly but Patrick’s parents’ mouths dropped open in comical O’s. Liam wanted to laugh out loud, but cleverly refrained.
Patrick’s father cleared his throat.
“So, how do you know Patrick then, Liam, if you don’t work together?”
Liam looked at his lover, unable to lie about something so important.
“Through mutual friends, Dad. We got introduced years ago and have become really good mates.” Patrick’s response was confident, perfect, polished. He’d been practicing that.
“Well, I have news...” Milly took the conversation into safer waters and Liam sat back, joining the conversation when required and eating the meal he’d chosen.
He wasn’t sure he could do this anymore. Liam wanted so much more than Patrick wanted to give him.
It was true. He was in love with Patrick. Had been since the first moment they had kissed, if he was truthful, but he needed someone open enough to declare their relationship what it was.
A real relationship built on trust, love, and common ground. Liam wanted them to buy a house together, wanted to look into adopting a child one day. He needed someone who was not only open and honest with himself, but also, had the support of his family. Patrick’s family loved him. It was as obvious as the brown eyes in his head. If only Patrick would be honest with them.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT: All My Life by Rucy Ban

All My Life

Seventeen-year-old Kari meets Neil Mars. “Neil as in Armstrong and Mars…as in Bruno.” A boy who beats every vampire, werewolf, highlander fantasy Kari has ever had. But she knows she can’t get close to him. Not ever. Because that would mean telling him everything. Coming clean. And Kari can’t bear the idea of changing the way Neil looks at her. Like she’s the only girl in the world. His reverence is something too precious to lose. Perhaps even at the cost of losing him.

But Kari doesn't know why Neil calls her his ‘Angel’ and when she finds out, she realizes what love is all about. Boundless joy, unending longing and a fuckload of heartache.

“I can take care of myself,” I tell him.
His lips twitch in response. “Oh, I’m sure you can, little shrub.”
“You are warned!” I take my voice down a notch and point my ring at him, “I’ll tunnel your leathery knighthood right out of this galaxy!”
Neil suddenly halts in his tracks and pins me down with eyes. “Batman vs. Green Lantern? Batman wins. Every. Single. Time.”
“Ohmygod! So not true. In the…”
He cuts me. “One word…yellow.” I stare at him with my mouth half-open.
“‘Nuff said,” he says smugly and then tugs on my hand.

REVIEW: Temptation by Nicole Edwards

Temptation

5 HEARTS

From Goodreads

Sierra Sellers has never had a problem finding a date, but when her mother’s meddling ways result in her being set up with the intensely sexy Luke McCoy, owner of Club Destiny, Sierra learns she can’t fight temptation. When he unleashes her deepest, darkest fantasies, she finds herself in a position she doesn't want to get out of.

Luke McCoy has run fast and hard from the demons that chase him. The hot, fierce need that pushed him beyond the boundaries he hadn't realized he’d erected resulted in a two month hiatus from the world he’d built for himself. A world concreted in lust and forbidden fantasies. So when his twin brother Logan introduces him to Sierra, Luke finds himself up against another temptation that he can’t resist.

Cole Ackerley never backs down from a challenge, but that was before he’d been intimately introduced to Luke McCoy. Throw in the black haired vixen with the glowing blue eyes, and Cole finds himself engulfed in a menage hot enough to rival the sun. When his feelings for both of them ignite, Cole learns the true meaning of self-restraint.

The deep, soul scorching hunger that ignites between the three of them turns into a firestorm of sensuality and lust that only burns brighter and hotter with every encounter. But when Luke continues to push them away, can Cole and Sierra find a way to show him there are no boundaries when it comes to love?

The hotness level of this book is off the damn charts! Don’t get me wrong I loved Conviction and thought it was hot but for me Temptation blew it out of the water. I can’t even imagine how hot the next book will be.

Sierra is one patient and feisty girl. She is willing to take on both Luke & Cole even after sensing they have issues. She has to fight for their relationship more than once. After finally deciding she loves them she has to also to deal with a jealous ex-lover who also happens to be her client. I admired her because I probably would have told the boys to go to hell.

Luke is dominant, stubborn and full of issues. At first I thought he was a complete and total ass because he just kept hurting Cole & Sierra. Then I realize he was running to try and save them all from hurting. He was a good guy but you have to stick it out. He is also a great boss because I would have fired someone who was stealing from me regardless of the reasoning.

Cole is the more submissive man. He is also more tenderhearted. He helps hold Sierra together every time Luke accidently hurts her. I loved that he put his heartbreak on the back burner to help her. He put up with Luke walking out more than I could have. To me it showed how loyal he was and how deep his love for Luke went.

The dynamic between these three is amazing. They connect right away and I cheered for them. There were times I wanted to strangle Luke or when I wanted Cole to get into his face. If the characters can evoke an emotion out of me then means it was an amazing book. This book did that more than once. The sex scenes were blistering!! Every scene was amazing and I think it is because Ms. Edward know how write sexual tension. I loved how Sierra embraced how Colt & Luke love for each other. Each character was good standalone but together they just worked.

GUEST POST/ GIVEAWAY: The Scarred Hero with Karyn Gerrard

The Scarred Hero

Considering I am a voracious reader, I came to romance reading late, about seven years ago. One of the first books I read was the historical, “Simply Love” By Mary Balogh. Both the H/H were wounded souls, but the hero, Sydnam Butler, had outer scars as well (The blurb says severely maimed, and yikes, he was, eye and arm gone)

I was immediately drawn to this hero, his nobility and bravery in the face of his liabilities and the vulnerability he tried so hard to hide. This book made me cry, and I not only became hooked on the romance genre, but scarred heroes in general. I also love the concept of the heroine seeing beyond the physical outer shell and physical impediments to the man underneath. It’s what we all want really, for someone to see the real you.

The Governess and the Beast is my first attempt at my own scarred hero. This short novella is book 2 in my Blind Cupid series (Book 1 is The Blind Cupid, The Edge series) Scarred heroes seem a perfect fit for a historical setting, and Baron Simon Wolstenholme, the Beast of Stonecliff, fits the bill.

Scarred in The Boer War, this lonely man gets more than he bargained for when he advertised for a governess for his ward.

The Governess and the Beast
(Blind Cupid #2)

Book Blurb

Hiding secrets and a past she longs to forget, Hortense Jennings answers an ad for a governess and embarks on an adventure she did not expect.

Concealed in a gothic, crumbling manor on the edge of a North Sea cliff, Baron Simon Wolstenholme is hiding from life. Horribly scarred from battle wounds, he lives up to his name “The Beast of Stonecliff” in both appearance and attitude until he realizes how lonely he has become.

Simon propositions Hortense for a singular night of passion. Raging weather and storms of anger clash between a lonely man and a distrustful woman to reveal secret desires in an emotional crescendo. Can the Governess and the Beast find calm amid the storm and admit their true feelings, or will pride destroy the fairy tale before it begins?

GUEST POST/ GIVEAWAY: Kathryn Quick's Braeden and Janne Blog Tour

When I first thought about submitting a manuscript, I knew the emotions of the characters had to be expressed deeply in the words.  But how can we as writers put on paper an emotion or reaction to a situation we have never fully experienced and still make it viable to the reader? Love, hate, fear, passion, sadness. I think I can safely say we all have gone through something in life and have felt these basic emotions to some degree. But we write about so much more – Revenge, betrayal, terror, unrequited love, abandonment, ecstasy, rapture. How can we experience these at the time we need to write about them?

Enter music.

Using music, we can experience emotion almost on an as-needed basis.
Music is a powerful medium to express and experience emotion. It recreates aspects of lives that are recognizable and can be experience to some degree just by listening. By recreating patterns associated with human emotion, it recreates the emotion. Then listening, we are able to grasp the emotional content, and react emotionally to it. As an embodiment of the emotion, we are able to perceive it directly.

For instance, a piece of music may be quick moving, expressing energy, purposefulness, or excitement. When we listen to a piece like that, more often than not, we can feel the emotion. And when we feel the emotion, we are more able to put it down on paper in a way that can be felt and experienced through our writing.

I know you all have a particular song that makes you cry, or gets you to remember certain periods in your life. Now let’s take those songs and stash them in the USB drive in your mind. When necessary, hit the play button and use them next time you get stuck in a scene that is flat and lacking the emotional response you need to get the reader to turns those pages.

I’ve listed a few of my favorite songs that help get me from blank page to emotional genius. Well, maybe not genius; maybe just not one dimensional.

Here goes –
Abandonment - I Who Have Nothing by Tom Jones
Loving someone from afar – Invisible by Clay Aiken
Pain of Loss – Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton
Love – Let Me Love You –Tim McGraw
Passion – Keep Coming Back - Richard Marx
Intense Attraction – Touch of Heaven – Richard Marx
Despair – Unbreak my Heart – Toni Braxton
Lost Love - Even Now - – Barry Manilow
Questioning your Heart – Measure of a Man – Clay Aiken
Losing a Love – Somewhere Down The Road – Barry Manilow
The First Time – Somewhere in the Night – Barry Manilow
Unrequited Love - – Melody for a Memory – Hall and Oates
Hopelessness – What About Now – Daughtry (Chris Daughtry)
Regret – I Go Crazy – Paul Davis

When you have time, take one of your favorite songs and listen for the emotion. Tag it, bag it, and save it for an emergency. You’ll be glad you did!
