My awesome, amazing, wonderful boyfriend blindfolded me & drove me to an animal hospital, carried me inside & handed me a little kitten. We lived in an apartment at the time & we werent allowed pets. So, he had called the landlord & made arrangements to pay extra every month for me to keep my little kitty :) Such a sweet gift! I adore him :)

I guess my favorite birthday gift when I was a child was my first Care Bear. I was crazy for them when the first came out in the 80's and I wanted a specific one (who was popular). It had to have been crazy hard for my parents to find it considering my birthday is 5 days before Christmas. All these years later and I still have him :)

ReplyDeleteThis past August I turned 40 (can't believe I just typed that). My husband took me on a cruise to the Caribbean- it was amazing. But as far as gifts go, my favorite would have to be my Pandora bracelets. I'm not much of a jewelry person, necklaces for some reason trigger migraine headaches so I typically avoid most jewelry. However, I have completely fallen in love with Pandora bracelets. I have 6 now. While we were on the cruise my husband bought me some new charms in Roatan, Honduras. I love them even more because I can say we bought them in an exotic location.

He had it at a restaurant and told me just that he was taking me out for my birthday. When we got to the restaurant, there were 35 of my friends and family yelling surprise. DeleteSince my birthday is on November 22nd it often falls on Thanksgiving week (in fact this year it's on Thanksgiving) and so when I was growing up it usually got put to the side while preparing for a big family gathering.
My husband changed all that and the first year we were married he took over all the preparations of preparing for the holiday and even made a from scratch pumpkin pie (my favorite) and put candles on it for me to blow out!
He was in the Navy (Vietnam) and had gotten safely home from a deployment just a week before and him being home was the best birthday gift I ever receive!
Jeanne what a great story and birthday present!! Your hubby is the best!! I hear you about getting shafted on your birthday because it is around the holiday. My husband's birthday is around Thanksgiving and my youngest son's is around Christmas and my oldest son's is around Easter. Someone always is getting shafted because the holiday is more important even when we try hard not to let that happen! But we try hard every year to make it special.
DeleteI have to say that my favorite thing about RT was meeting the authors. Being able to talk with the talented women (and men) that write the books that I love so much was a huge thrill for me. It was an honor to meet everyone from the amazing Anne Rice to J.R. Ward to one of my all time favorite authors Joey W. Hill. I highly recommend that if you ever get the chance to attend any of the conventions or even a book signing where you can meet someone you admire do it. It is an experience I will never forget!

DeleteI've been trying to convince my husband for years to let me go to one of the conventions. Great, he finally says that it might be a fun thing to do next year but thinks that him going with me would be a great idea!
How am I suppose to flirt with the handsome hunks if he's there with me? He told me he doesn't want me to "go alone" because he's afraid "other men" might approach me!
I tried reminding him to remember we've been married for 42 years and I'm going to be 65 ("figgin") years old so I think it's safe enough to venture out on my own! On the other hand maybe all the younguns would distract him and give me the time to check out the hot young male cover models!
Jeanne I'm totally laughing about your husband wanting to go! Tell him, and this is the truth, that there is so much estrogen in those conventions that he won't be able to breathe! While there are some husbands of authors (and also a few male authors) that are there the absolute majority are women. And while you might be able to get your picture with one of the passing male cover hotties tell your husband he has nothing to worry about!! It is nothing but women all there for the same reason, their love of books and reading. If anything I think he would be more distracted there than you!! LOL

DeleteA favorite gift would have to be roses. It was my Sweet 16 and the first time I ever received flowers. They were from my best friend who was a guy. He sent them thinking he wouldn't be able to make my party. What a sweetheart and still my friend to this day, twenty years later.

The only thing I didn't consider at the time was that my birthday was in the middle of May until a couple years later when we had our first daughter. My poor hubby now gets stuck with our anniversary, mothers day and my birthday all in the same week. He is great about it and refuses to put them all together like I tell him to!
