Conduct Unbecoming
by L.A. Witt
4.5 HEARTS
As long as no one asks and they don’t tell…
First class petty officer Eric Randall is less than thrilled about taking orders to Okinawa. Three long, lonely years on a crappy island that’s thousands of miles from his daughter? Oh. Yeah. Sign him up. But as long as he’s stuck here, he might as well make the best of it, so he discreetly checks out the local gay scene.
Shane nearly drops his drink when the gorgeous, cocky-looking guy strolls into Palace Habu. He buys him a drink, and before long, they’re making out in a booth. Eric is a straight-to-the-point kind of guy and doesn’t want to play games. Since Eric’s idea of not playing games is getting the hell out of there and going back to one of their apartments, Shane is more than happy to go along with it.
What starts as a scorching hot one night stand leaves both of them wanting more…until Eric finds out Shane doesn’t just outrank him, he’s an officer. DADT may be repealed, but an enlisted man getting involved with an officer falls under conduct unbecoming.
Still, they can’t resist their mutual desire. There’s no reason anyone has to find out. But secrets have a way of outing themselves.
Warning: Contains two military boys who keep forgetting they’re not supposed to be together. Probably because they never have their uniforms on for any length of time…
Looking for that next must read m/m story? Well ladies here it is! Conduct Unbecoming releases two weeks from today and while it is my first L.A. Witt book and I can guarantee you that it won’t be my last. I literally could not put down this scorching hot tale about Naval men Petty Officer Eric Randall and Commander Shane Connelly and you won’t be able to either!
When first class Petty Officer Eric Randall gets orders for Okinawa he is less than enthusiastic about them. He barely had time to even pack his bags and is now spending three years on an island he has no interest in and having to leave his teenage daughter behind is literally killing him. He’s going to be a long way from home in a place where he doesn’t know the culture, the language or a single soul. And being gay how is he ever going to be able to find anyone to spend time with?
But once there Eric finds Okinawa isn’t exactly what he expected and the island surprises him in a lot of ways. One of those surprises is Shane. A chance meeting between the two at the bar Palace Habu leads to a night of off-the-charts amazing sex at Shane's apartment and where the Welcome Mat at the front door earns its rightful name. But Eric and Shane realize that one night together will never be enough. And even though they can’t keep their hands off each other they are going to have to do just that because soon after their next encounter Shane realizes that he outranks Eric and that is a big no-no in the military. But it isn’t just the mind-blowing sex that keeps bringing Eric and Shane back together, there is something more. And that something more is what has them throwing caution to the wind and jumping into a secret relationship that could all but destroy their careers. The question is whether or not this something more is worth the chance of losing everything they have worked their whole lives for.
Conduct Unbecoming is written showing not just Eric's POV but Shane's POV as well. I haven't read many books with the POV like this but I found I particularly liked that approach in this story. It really helped me understand Eric and Shane better by being able to feel the emotions they were going through and for me I felt it helped enrich the story. I think Eric and Shane had great chemistry and I loved how playful they were with each other. L.A. did a great job in layering these characters. Both men are sexy, intelligent, gay, military, divorced fathers who are living around the other side of the world from their children and their homes and are trying to deal with daily life the best way they know how. And let's face it life isn't easy even under the best of circumstances. Then let's throw in the stress of trying to have a discreet relationship with someone you care about as you constantly try to tamp down the fear that someone will find out.
There is absolutely no shortage of smoking hot sex in Conduct Unbecoming that's for sure! But it is the scenes that lead up to those scorchers that put the spark in my blood just as well like this one.
Our lips met, and everything was still. The club pulsed and flickered around us, but here in this booth, nothing moved except my pounding heart.
Slowly, we eased into motion, wrapping our arms around each other as I dragged my lower lip across his. Eric’s hand continued up my inner thigh, and I was sure he intended to tease my painfully hard cock through my shorts.
Instead, though, he lifted his hand, then let his fingers drift up the front of my shirt, catching every button on the way up like a silent countdown to making contact with my neck.
Three . . .
His fingers snagged just below my collar.
Two . . .
Eric parted my lips with his tongue.
One.
Warm skin grazed the side of my throat.
I closed my eyes and shivered, and Eric took advantage of my being off guard just long enough for him to shove me up against the back of the booth.
Nothing is hotter than two guys who love to make out and Shane and Eric like to do it. A lot.
I'm in love with the idea of love. *sigh* And what attracts me to m/m stories are the love stories that go hand in hand with all those scorching hot sex scenes. And with Eric and Shane their journey together not only had them discovering some important things about themselves but as a couple as well.
I was afraid of surrendering to something. Afraid we were standing on the brink of a point of no return. I couldn't even say for certain it was fear at all.
My hands shook, my heart pounded, but it was the anticipation of the jump, not the fear of the fall.
I absolutely loved these two together!
With L.A. Witt having lived in Okinawa you feel like you are there in the story with her vivid descriptions of the island and the beauty and history hidden within. From Katsuren Castle for sightseeing to Komaka Island for snorkeling to Kokusai Street for buying souvenirs you felt you where right along side Eric and Shane.
If you like m/m stories that leave you breathless and well satisfied then Conduct Unbecoming is for you! After I told L.A. how much I enjoyed the story I was thrilled to hear that one of the characters will soon be getting their own story in the future!

You know, for years I was attracted to M/M love stories. Everyone I knew thought I was weird & teased me that I must have been a gay man in a former life. Over the last few yrs, I have been seeing more & more M/M romances & I am realizing that there are a lot of us out there that like this genre. I have to say...where the heck were all you girls when I was in School?? ;) There is nothing hotter than 2 hot guys getting down & dirty!! I haven't yet read this book, but I have read some books by L.A. Witt. She rocks! I'll definitely be back here on the 22nd :)
